Hello,

This month we have something for everyone; if you are an adventure-seeker, then how does a superb diving package sound? For those that want some adventure as well as relaxation, try our luxury yacht (special!).

Blowing bubbles in Nosy Be - a divers paradise.

If you are dying to get some underwater time in but are a little bored with your normal dive sites, take a look at what Madagascar has to offer!

With calm seas, beautifully warm water (averaging around the mid 20 mark), excellent vizability and a wonderful water-world waiting to be discovered, Madagascar is a fantastic alternative to Mozambique, Mauritius and Zanzibar. As a taster of what you can do, take a look at our suggested one week itinerary at Sakatia Lodge.

Sakatia Island is central to the best dive sites Madagascar has to offer. From this small island, you can experience wonderful white beaches and warm, translucent waters brimming with colourful reef fish and dramatic corals for as far as the eye can see.

Alternatively, we would love to tailor-make a package for you, taking into account your accommodation requirements, length of stay and what else you would like to do on this fabulous island. Turtles, lemurs, quad biking, hiking? No problem! Nosy Be offers plenty of activities for you to enjoy out of the water too

New species on Iranja Island?

Earlier this week we received an interesting e-mail from Nosy Iranja Island. One of the guests at the luxury lodge photographed an animal emerging from the plants in the pathway during the evening.

Such an animal has never before been seen on Iranja Island, therefore questions have arisen as to where it came from, or if this species has existed on the island all along! It is believed this creature is a Tenrec, most probably a Common Tenrec, or Tenrec ecaudatus, which is known to inhabit forest and shrubland areas.

Nosy Iranja Island is approximately 60km from the mainland, with a highly tropical, sand based forest. Nosy Iranja is well known as an excellent Turtle Breeding area; however the discovery of a Tenrec is really quite exciting! For further details of the common Tenrec, and a comparative photo, please look at the following websites - Wikipedia and AnimalDiveristy.

"Tenrecs are unusual insectivores that have radiated into ecological niches filled in other lands by hedgehogs, mice, shrews, opossums, and even otters. While a few species of tenrec are found in central Africa, they are most diverse in Madagascar which has around 30 species."

If you believe the animal in the image is something else, we would LOVE to hear from you.  Let us know at info@jenmansafaris.com
