MADAGASCAR BY TRAIN : "Madagascar Railroad Trip"

Madagascar is well known as being a very beautiful, large island located in the Indian Ocean, and as the fourth largest in the world and is famous for its spectacular nature and abundant wildlife. It is not surprising then that a railroad trip is one of the best ways to experience and admire the beauty of this island and its variety of landscapes including some impressive scenery that could only be seen by using the railway.

Jenman Island Safaris has organized a 15 day Madagascar Railroad Trip in which you will be able to meet the local population, enjoy time with the train crew and tour guides who are only too eager to share their knowledge of this gem of an Island with you.

The journey begins with your arrival at Antananarivo airport... Over 15 days the journey will take you through cities, towns, villages that cover Antananarivo, Moramanga, Tamatave, Ambatondrazaka, Ambositra, Fianarantsoa, Ambalavao, Manakara, Ranomafana and many more special places.
Some of the spectacular highlights to look forward to while visiting these places include Andasibe National Park, reptile farms in Marozevo, night walks in Andasibe and the very popular Ranomafana National Park which is well known for its vast wildlife and nature.

What makes this Railroad trip so special is the journey taken upon them, these trains hold a special part of history in travel within Madagascar and offers a different and unique holiday experience. The adventure is complemented by three trains, all with a different background and heritage to them, they include:

La Micheline 'Viko Viko'

This train is a revolutionary Invention of the 30's and there are only 2 left in the world, one in a museum and one still running in Madagascar. It has an an average speed of 50 km/h and is a real gem as it has been refurbished thanks to its carefully preserved origin and genuine parts. An astonishing fact is that the train actually runs on rubber wheels along the track, the only kind in the world. Some other features of this unique rare train are its wicker chairs, bamboo flooring, a corner bar within the train and a FCE sound system and so much more.

Dia Sora ('Journey Good') Train

The Dia Sora has 26 Scheduled stops on the journey, which makes it a worthwhile ride and all the stops are an opportunity to meet and interact with the locals as the train is met by them at every stop - they sell local products, souvenirs and foodstuffs.

The Jungle Express

The Jungle Express has 17 scheduled stops and the line that it runs on is one of the steepest in the world and has 67 bridges and 48 tunnels.

This is a once in a lifetime tour and experience not to be missed, take your camera along... it will be a journey and memory you will be talking about for a long time.

Jenman Madagascar Safari Workshop (Competition and Winner)

Our 2011 Madagascar Training Workshop was held to promote Madagascar as a wonderful tourist destination, and was well supported by our very kind sponsors Air Madagascar, the Vanilla Hotel in Nosy Be and Sakatia Lodge. We also had a great group of enthusiastic Travel Consultants from all over Cape Town coming through to our offices in Claremont, to learn more on selling this unique Indian Ocean Island and it was a resounding success.

Not only, did we also manage to have the Madagascan Consulate give a warm welcome to the guests, but Air Madagascar was represented in person by Mariska Langerman, the Marketing Manager and her colleague, Annelie Clark, who flew down from Johannesburg! At the end of the presentation and some very yummy traditional Malagasy snacks, we held a short quiz to determine the winner of the prize, which had been generously put together by our sponsor.

Mandy McEvoy of Club Travel was the lucky winner of a trip for 2 to Nosy Be, including flights, and here is her feedback of the trip which she took alongside her sister in November:

''A warm thank you to Jenman African Safaris for the amazing opportunityto visit Madagascar.

My sister and I had a fabulous time every day that we were there, but snorkeling with a turtle was certainly the highlight of the trip!

Watching lemurs fly from tree to tree was such an incredible experience, they are truly amazing creatures to watch and touch.

We both can`t wait for the next time we get to go to this beautifully unique country.''

Many thanks Mandy! Sounds like you and your sister had a great time. If anyone would like to find out more about Madagascar and what it has to offer please feel free to contact us on info@jenmansafaris.com
