Activities at Turtle Bay Camp – what to do on your Madagascar holiday

Turtle Bay Fishing Camp is a great Madagascar holiday destination – even though Turtle Bay Camp is known for its great fishing opportunities there are many other things that you can do there… If you need help in planning your Madagascar holiday please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Ski Boat Transfers and Madagascar Fishing

Turtle Bay Camp operates a 28ft Cape Craft ski boat, with 2x 225hp outboards, and a 16ft Coast Cat, with 2 x 50hp outboards, all of which are well maintained and equipped for game fishing.  The skipper and one-man crew are extremely adept at their jobs and are very knowledgeable in terms of fish species, their whereabouts and their proximity to the Turtle Bay Fishing Camp - thus avoiding unnecessary travel time in hunting for fish. The game tackle provided on the boats is of good quality and is in good condition. This Madagascar holiday camp mainly specialises in trolling and conventional big-game fishing.  Fly or spinning tackle should be taken along by visitors, if required. Snorkelling at Turtle Bay Fishing Camp

Water temperatures in the vicinity of Turtle Bay usually vary between 24°C and 28°C, and the visibility usually exceeds 20m. The reefs are of sandstone and large corals. Keen snorkellers will be impressed at the abundance of turtles, large fish and even whale sharks that they will see on their Madagascar holiday, and spear fishermen will need to be very selective to be rewarded by a prize catch. Divers are very welcome as they ensure a regular supply of fish and crayfish on the table. No diving or spear fishing equipment is supplied.

Island Hoping Trips around Madagascar

Spend a day exploring two neighbouring islands (off the coast of Turtle Bay Camp), where you can swim, snorkel and fish to your hearts content.  We include the use of light fishing tackle, refreshments and a barbecue on a secluded beach. This is great for the whole family as everyone can explore the other islands, snorkel in the warm waters and even find some great new Madagascar fishing spots! (Additional cost)

Hiking

For those visitors not interested in the other activities and excursions offered at the Turtle Bay Fishing Camp, walking is the best way to explore the natural beauty of this area. Turtle Bay Camp is situated in very picturesque surroundings and walks around the island at low tide are possible.  You will find uninhabited beaches and panoramic views which are breathtaking. You may also come across the small village, or catch a glimpse of the wildlife that inhabits Kalakajour Island.

Night Fishing Trips

Try your hand at some nocturnal fishing, close to Turtle Bay Island. Madagascar night fishing is an adventurous experience and if you are willing and daring enough then our Turtle Bay camp manager is more then willing to show you the best night fishing spots in Madagascar and what it can offer you! Naturally fishing at night is completely different to the normal daytime fishing… each offers a unique experience and something that beginners and expert fish-enthusiasts will love. (Additional cost)

Kayaking at the Turtle Bay Fishing Camp

At Turtle Bay Camp you can take one of the kayaks and paddle around the island, which is about 8km in perimeter. The Kayaks can also aid in getting you to fishing spots around Kalakajoro or some of the reefs just off the island. Three other islands make up the Radama Archipelago, and these can be reached by paddle on extended kayaking trips for the more experienced kayakers. Kayaking around the Turtle Bay Island is without a doubt one of the nicest ways to explore this Madagascar Island.
