ANTANANARIVO
Antananarivo, "The City of a Thousand Warriors", often known simply as “Tana”, is similar to many African cities, but has a flair all its own. The locals call it “Vohitsara” (city of beauty). Antananarivo has been built on the slopes of a Y-shaped granite mountain where vegetation covers an embankment, with the houses slotted into the space not already taken over by the vegetation.
