Berenty Private Reserve

The privately-owned reserve of Berenty is found on the banks of the Mandrare River and is about 80 km from Fort Dauphin, near to many tropical beaches. The area has cold, dry winters and summer thunderstorms are common, as are incredibly high temperatures in summer.

This reserve attracts more visitors than any of the other nature reserves in Madagascar. The trails in Berenty are flat, wide and well-maintained, and visitors are free to explore these trails independently.

Lemurs, a main attraction in Berenty Private Reserve, can be seen both by day and night. As one of the best places in Madagascar to see the various lemur species, Berenty is home to the ringtail lemurs and verreaux sifakas (dancing lemurs), amongst other species of lemur.

A bird-lover’s paradise, about 83 species of bird can be found at Berenty. Other animal attractions are various reptiles, including many species of lizard and snake, large fruit bats and tortoises.

Some other interesting things to do in Berenty are the museum (where you can learn about the local people) and the Sisal Plantation.

Madagascar has many fascinating National Parks, the most popular of which are:

- Parc National de Ranomafana
- Parc National de l'Isalo
- Parc National de Montagne d'Ambre
- Parc National des Tsingy de Bemaraha

- Parc National d'Andasibe-Mantadia
